Circa 1780 English Georgian Slant-Front Bureau | Professionally Restored | Documented Provenance
An exceptional late 18th-century English Georgian writing bureau, circa 1780, showcasing the timeless elegance, beautiful craftsmanship, and rich character of traditional English antique furniture.
Dating back nearly 250 years, this substantial bureau features a beautifully aged wood finish with warm, natural tones and an elegant slant-front design.
The writing surface opens to reveal an impressive fitted interior, thoughtfully arranged with multiple small drawers, decorative pigeonholes, and a central locking cupboard. The craftsmanship and intricate interior details make this bureau as beautiful when opened as when closed.
Below the writing compartment are four graduated drawers featuring traditional dovetail joinery, period-style brass hardware, and generous storage. Classic bracket feet complete its handsome Georgian silhouette.
English Provenance and Professional Restoration
I originally acquired from Malik Antique in Manchester, England, the bureau is accompanied by original antique dealer documentation identifying it as a Georgian bureau dating to circa 1780.
It was subsequently professionally restored by Don Litt Antiques in England, at a cost of £700, to bring out the natural beauty of the wood while retaining the distinctive character of this historic piece.
I transported the bureau from England to the United States in 2002.
A Timeless and Functional Antique
Equally at home in an elegant library, study, living room, or thoughtfully curated contemporary interior, this bureau combines the beauty of 18th-century furniture with practical everyday functionality.
Its substantial proportions, warm wood tones, and detailed fitted interior make it a distinctive example of traditional English furniture craftsmanship.

Right side of desktop Falls slightly deeper into frame then left side. Previously fixed with a small piece of added wood but that is in need of repair to balance the desktop while closed. See photos. This piece is over 250 years old and flaws are consistent with age. A small bit of veneer has come off and can easily be repaired. At some point during the 250 years new feet were put on. I restored back desk back to its original feet with its original feet. This is a solid heavy piece. less
