A striking Murano attributed handblown vase created using the filigrana technique — a process developed on Murano in the 16th century — it features delicately swirled white glass canes suspended within crystal-clear glass. The result is a luminous, almost kinetic surface pattern that seems to shift and ripple as it catches the light.
The form itself, a graceful, organic silhouette with a subtly cinched waist, speaks to the sculptural sensibility that defined Murano glass design in the postwar decades. While the palette is elegantly restrained, the technical mastery is anything but — each cane is carefully aligned and twisted by hand, a hallmark of Murano’s finest workshops.
The piece is reminiscent of designs by Dino Martens for Aureliano Toso, who helped usher in a new era of modernist glass in the 1940s and ’50s by marrying traditional Venetian techniques with bold, contemporary forms. Though this vase is not signed, its craftsmanship and style clearly draw from that same lineage of innovation and precision.
A timeless example of Italian artistry — perfect as a centerpiece or sculptural accent in any refined interior.
