Founded by Peter Hvidt (1916-1986) and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen (1907-1986), the company ran from 1944 to 1975. They are among the most important figures in 20th-century Danish furniture design, creating furniture that could be easily mass-produced and transported cost-effectively. Many of their works are represented in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the National Gallery in Melbourne, and the Designmuseum Denmark in Copenhagen. The "Portex" armchair belongs to a series launched by Hvidt & Mølgaard-Nielsen in 1945. Produced by Fritz Hansen. The frame is made of solid beech, with a seat and back of birch plywood. It is in impeccable original condition, with a perfect patina and no defects, veneer damage, or other unusually heavy signs of wear. Over the years, the armchair has acquired a warm, honey-colored patina. It looks elegant and is surprisingly comfortable. A black faux leather seat cushion is included. Seat height: 38 cm.
