Each bird is drawn from a single gather, the neck pulled out hot and bent in one movement, with a small amber beak applied at the tip. Set facing one another, the two necks curve together and close the space between them into a heart — the pair was made to be shown this way, and one alone loses the figure.

The ruby is carried in the body of the glass rather than on its surface, so it reads darkest through the breast and lightens along the neck where the wall thins.

Unsigned, as most Venetian export glass of the period was. Sold as Murano glass without attribution to a specific furnace.
