The sampler is worked in silk threads on a linen ground, in a variety of stitches. The sampler features a variety of intricate horizontal patterned bands. The upper two thirds has a number of very finely worked bands, including 'boxers', flower arrangements, acorns and many different patterns. The lower third has bands of cutwork and whitework. Colours green, dark brown, gold, silver, blue and pink. Alphabets A-Z in upper case. Signed and dated 'E.Y 1672'. Framed in a modern wood frame with glass. Mounting: The sampler is stitched to calico slip over mountboard board. Frame backed with paper and sealed with tape. Dimensions exclude the frame and slip. See less
