This beautiful set of six (6) antique George III Hepplewhite upholstered dining chairs (two armchairs and four side chairs) is … Read more This beautiful set of six (6) antique George III Hepplewhite upholstered dining chairs (two armchairs and four side chairs) is extremely solid despite its need for surface restoration, cleaning, and/or reupholstering. The chairs appear to have been recovered at some point in the past. The light green and ivory plaid fabric needs a deep cleaning or replacement and is not original to the chairs. All of the solid wood frames have dings and scratches consistent with age and could use light restoration. I am listing these as late 19th century, however they may be older.

The center of the crest rails is fluted and the backs have three center splats which are skillfully carved and pierced. On two of the chairs, nicely shaped arms are secured to the thick, fully upholstered spring reinforced seats. Square front legs taper to spade feet and the back saber legs add to the chairs' solid structure and stability.

This is a fine quality set of elegant, classic chairs with solid wood construction and excellent carving. No makers marks are apparent, though all seats have liners underneath so it’s not possible to look for marks without removing the liners.
