Article in the Hunterdon County Democrat

Artwork by Harold H. “Biff” Heins Jr. and his father, Harold H. “Hap” Heins, was recently found in a dusty old trunk in the loft of a workshop and will be displayed.

Biff is known in Hunterdon because of his association with Prallsville Mills in Stockton. He taught watercolor classes there for five years to many students.

His workshop was in Blackwells Mills, Somerset County, on the Delaware & Raritan Canal. Biff used the place to restore and refinish fine antiques. It was also his art studio, where he painted for more than 45 years.

Biff died on May 1, 2006, at the age of 75. His artwork is known worldwide, winning many awards both locally and in New York City at the Salmugundi Club on 5th Avenue. Hap Heins, more noted for his historical writings in local newspapers about the Revolutionary War in and around this area also painted. Many published books have his sketches and articles. See less
