In the Miao culture, silver is regarded as the most precious of metals and families begin amassing silver jewelry for their daughters at childhood. The weight of a girl's ornaments can range anywhere from several ounces to a few kilograms.

Dated to the early 20th century, the necklace is hand-crafted from silver alloy wire, with one half braided into a tight cord and the other coiled into a graceful half-moon shape. Elevated on a custom steel mount, the antique necklace lives on as a sculptural object with fantastic character.
