A dynamic 19th-century oil on canvas by Salvator Domingo depicting jockeys on horseback racing across an open landscape beneath a dramatic cloud-filled sky. Domingo was known primarily for his equestrian and sporting subjects, particularly horses, dogs, and fox-hunting scenes. He exhibited his work in North America and elsewhere during this period.
Characterized by bright colors and energetic brushwork, his paintings capture the movement and excitement of sporting life. His work shows the influence of celebrated British sporting artists Sir Alfred Munnings and Lionel Edwards. Signed lower right and presented in an elaborate giltwood frame with richly carved foliate and scroll decoration.
