Sourced in the 1980s from the estate collection of a historic San Francisco oyster house, this museum-grade porthole was originally salvaged from an industrial coal vessel or merchant collier decommissioned and scrapped in the 1920s.
Cast from massive, solid marine bronze and weighing an incredible 90 pounds, this heavy-duty, industrial-grade artifact features four fully operational "dog" locking clamps, rugged structural hinges, and its original, thick sea-green maritime glass. Decades of careful storage has preserved its authentic, untouched dark patina. A crisp, historic industrial casting pattern number (74145-2-D) is stamped directly onto the upper deadlight locking tab and remains beautifully visible when the hatch is in the fully closed position.

This is a true statement piece with immense structural integrity, ideal for high-end coastal commissions, luxury lake houses, or industrial loft designs. It was originally sourced for two distinct custom artist concepts:

2. Statement Furniture: A magnificent centerpiece for a custom, heavy-timber dining or conference table, allowing the sea-green glass to anchor a reclaimed wood framework.

Photos show: dogs, hinge, port open and closed, and a US Dime as a reference for small scrapes on the back of the bronze (most likely from salvage tools), and small scratches and pits in glass from its life at sea.
