Charming miniature original watercolor/gouache painting on a thin paper, signed “K. Noland” and attributed to American artist Kate Noland (b. 1886).

This wonderfully detailed little painting depicts a picturesque coastal village overlooking blue water, with sailboats, colorful rooftops, lush vegetation and prominent church/tower architecture.

The scene is particularly interesting in light of Kate Noland’s documented connection with Provincetown, Massachusetts, where she was living by 1930. A documented Kate Noland watercolor titled Provincetown has appeared at auction and depicts closely related coastal architecture and subject matter. Noland is recorded as having lived and worked in Iowa, California, New York and Provincetown.

The painting is signed “K. Noland” at lower left. Attribution is based upon the signature together with comparison to documented works by Kate Noland; no certificate of authenticity accompanies the painting.

Medium: Watercolor with opaque watercolor/gouache on paper.

Dimensions: Approximately 4.25” W x 6” H.

Condition: Very good vintage/antique condition overall. Minor age-related toning and surface/edge wear are present, along with an area of old residue/paper disturbance near the upper-left corner. Reverse is blank. Please examine all photographs carefully.

An exceptionally appealing small-format work with impressive detail and a wonderful Provincetown/New England coastal character. See less
