A gorgeous set of 8 Vietri lidded boxes, handcrafted and hand-painted in Italy, each sculpted in a rounded coconut/chestnut form with a realistic faux-bois (wood grain) glaze and a raised, hand-applied fern or palm frond in glossy green, finished with a small stem-shaped finial on the lid. Each is marked on the underside "Made in Italy for Vietri, Hillsborough, NC."
These are the kind of pieces that make an island-colonial or British Colonial tablescape sing — perfect as individual nut dishes, place-card holders, or salt cellars down a long table, or simply grouped on a console with coral and shell for a coastal vignette. Vietri pieces are individually hand-formed and hand-painted, so slight variation in shape, glaze depth, and leaf placement from piece to piece is characteristic of the handcraft (not a flaw) — see photos for detail on each.
