Originating from the skilled weavers of the Mazgalan village within the Hamadan region of Northwest Persia, this rug embodies the lively aesthetic and robust construction characteristic of rural Persian weaving. This captivating rug features a brilliant and commanding red color field, providing a warm and inviting foundation for its striking design. At its heart lies an elongated central medallion, richly filled with intricate geometric forms rendered in an array of vibrant, bright colors. This dynamic central motif creates a compelling visual focal point. The design is beautifully complemented by contrasting blue corners (spandrels) and a cohesive blue border, which together with the dominant red field, create a wonderful and harmonious color combination that is both traditional and visually striking. The overall design of this Mazgalan rug is notably reminiscent of the beloved Bibikabad rugs, also from the Hamadan region, sharing a similar spirit of bold geometry and rich coloration.
