The classic, well-balanced design features graceful, sculptural lines. The inventive cantilever frame is made from flexible steam bent plywood and the cushioned seat is well padded. The chair was designed for comfort and is remarkably so even by modern ergonomic standards. The slightly tilted back allows for gentle relaxation while still remaining in an upright position. The Model 402 chair has a more lightweight structure than the famous Aalto Tank chair and is a little taller making it of more practical use.

This particular chair made from steam bent birch was produced by Artek and can be dated from the 1930s. The vintage vinyl upholstery may be later in date. It is a stunning shade of blue and remains in excellent vintage condition. Faded stamp on chair underside reads “Aalto Design, Made in Finland” and both legs are engraved with the number “237”.

CONDITION
Excellent vintage condition with general wear consistent with age and use.
