The sweeping organic construction gives the chair an almost botanical or crown-like silhouette and makes it as much a piece of functional sculpture as seating.
This distinctive design is associated with Miro Harold and is often referred to in the vintage design market as the “Flower Chair” or “King Harold” chair. Comparable examples have been attributed to Italian production of the 1980s.
Of particular importance, this example retains a stenciled/branded mark on the underside, appearing to read “HAROLD” beneath a stylized crown-like emblem. Other Miro Harold examples have been documented at auction with a stencil signature on the underside, providing an especially interesting point of comparison.
Constructed of beautifully grained wood with a warm natural finish, the chair combines traditional bentwood craftsmanship with an exuberant postmodern sculptural form. The radiating back creates a dramatic profile from virtually every angle.
A wonderful statement chair for a collector of Italian modern, postmodern, Memphis-era, sculptural or unusual 20th-century furniture. Particularly effective as an accent chair in an entry, bedroom, dressing area, library or eclectic interior. See less
