the ivory porcelain is decorated with black zigzag lines, checkerboard details and contrasting blocks of red, blue, yellow, green and violet. Designed in 1982 and introduced by rosenthal in 1984, “flash” became hafner’s signature porcelain series and a recognised example of 1980s postmodern design. Pieces from the series are represented in the collections of the cooper hewitt, smithsonian design museum and the national gallery of victoria.

the two tapered vases create a coordinated display, while the ashtray can also be used as a small decorative bowl or catchall.
