Curated as a Young Naturalists Gallery, this set brings together six original 1920s Swedish natural history plates from Alfred Brehm’s Djurens Liv. Several are after watercolors by Swedish zoological artist Olof Gylling, whose illustrations gave the Swedish edition a particularly atmospheric character.

ABOUT THE WORKS
Brehm’s Djurens Liv was the Swedish adaptation of the influential zoological encyclopedia Brehms Tierleben. The fourth Swedish edition paired Brehm’s broad survey of the animal world with work by Scandinavian illustrators including Olof Gylling, a zoological artist and museum conservator known for combining close natural observation with fully developed animal environments. Offered together, these six plates form a compact cross-section of the edition’s ornithological, mammalian, and entomological subjects.
