An extraordinary and highly important Arts & Crafts period pottery vase by Grueby Pottery of Boston, Massachusetts, dated 1904. Masterfully hand-carved with overlapping stylized leaves encircling its bulbous spherical body, finished in Grueby's famous signature "cucumber" matte green glaze with a rich leather-like curdled texture.
Signed on the underside with the impressed circular "Grueby Pottery Boston U.S.A." mark, artist initials "FG" (Florence L. Liley), and date. Grueby's iconic matte green pottery defined the American Arts & Crafts aesthetic and was historically featured alongside Tiffany Studios lamps. A museum-quality investment piece for high-end pottery and American decorative arts collectors.
