Each vase has a graceful baluster form with a gently flared neck and broad rounded body, creating a wonderfully balanced silhouette. The soft peach-colored ground provides an especially attractive backdrop for the rich gilded embellishment, with delicate touches of red, green, and additional colors adding depth and visual interest. At the center of each vase is a beautifully rendered neoclassical female profile, depicted in the manner of an ancient Greek or Roman beauty. Her classically styled features, swept hair, laurel-like headpiece, and richly colored drapery are meticulously hand painted against a luminous textured gold ground. The portraits are surrounded by delicate gilt framework and ornamental flourishes accented with tiny touches of colorful enamel-like decoration.

Additional metallic gold bands encircle the neck and base, providing a sophisticated finishing detail and beautifully complementing the warm peach porcelain. The matching decoration gives the pair wonderful symmetry when displayed together, making them particularly striking on a mantel, console, bookcase, or pair of side tables.

Each vase measures approximately 9 inches high, 4.5 inches wide, and 4.5 inches deep. Dating to approximately the 1870s, the vases are unmarked by a manufacturer, with only hand-painted identification numbers on the undersides. No chips or damage, there are losses and rubbing to the painted surfaces particularly around top necks. One spot under neck to finish appears to be a manufacture defect.
