The covered … Read more Dated to the early 20th century, this antique porcelain jar is a lovely example of Chinese blue-and-white porcelain. The covered jar is sculpted with thin walls, a gently tapered form, and hand-painted decoration in cobalt blue underglaze.

Brushed with delicate linework and soft shading, the painted decoration depicts the Eight Immortals, divinities of Taoist mythology who journeyed together to attend the peach banquet and attain immortality. The eight immortals impart a blessing of longevity and success, each identified by their characteristic accessory - such as the flute, the double gourd (hulu), the fish drum, and the clappers.
