Their substantial proportions, deep molding and beautifully aged gold finish give the pair the presence of antique Continental frames.

Each frame features an elaborate raised outer border surrounding multiple architectural moldings, including a finely detailed inner gilt border. Layers of antiqued gold, muted gray-green and subtle warm red undertones create wonderful depth and an authentic Old World appearance, particularly along the carved high points and recessed decoration.

The frames have a particularly appealing timeworn gilt patina, with variations in the finish emphasizing the dimensional carving. At approximately 2.5 inches deep and 5 pounds each, these are substantial decorative frames with considerably more visual presence than typical contemporary framing.

Beautiful displayed as a pair, they would be especially striking framing companion portraits, landscapes, architectural studies or botanical works, or incorporated into a sophisticated gallery wall. Their symmetry also makes them an excellent choice for flanking a mirror, console, fireplace or doorway.

The backs reveal substantial wood construction and older framing elements. The reverse construction differs somewhat between the two frames, suggesting they may have been fitted or adapted for artwork at different times.

Condition:
Good vintage condition with a beautifully aged appearance. Age-appropriate wear includes areas of gilt loss and rubbing, small chips and nicks, surface marks, and areas where underlying tones are visible, particularly along the raised ornament and edges. One frame has a small area of loss along the upper decorative molding. Reverse construction and hardware differ between the two frames.
