This portrait painting from 1908 was created during her marriage to Justus Brinckmann (1843-1915).

During her marriage, Henriette Hahn-Brinckmann reduced her artistic activity, primarily creating portraits of family members and people in her immediate circle. According to sources, she "worked secretly until his [i.e., Justus Brinckmann's] death, in her husband's absence" (Renate Berger), as he "forbade her from continuing her artistic work upon their marriage" (Rita Bake / Rita Reimers).

Henriette Hahn-Brinckmann

Painter, graphic artist, and applied artist.

from 1877/78, she taught at a "Drawing School for Children" in Copenhagen (under Kristian Zahrtmann and Pietro Krohn).

In 1885/86, she was a teacher at the "Drawing School for Children."

In 1887, she was commissioned by the Gemäldegalerie Dresden to copy the painting "The Savior" by Giovanni Battista Cima da Conegliano (erroneously attributed to Giovanni Bellini until 1896) for a village church in Buerup, Zealand.

1892–94 Study trips to Dresden and Paris.

April 14, 1893 Birth of her daughter Stephanie. The father was Justus Brinckmann, who was still married at the time.

Important acquaintance with the sculptor, ceramicist, and founder of the Vejen Art Museum, Niels Hansen-Jacobsen (1861–1941).

1894 Return to Hamburg.

1896 Opening of her own drawing and painting school.

Inspired by Japanese color woodblock prints she saw at the “Museum of Arts and Crafts,” she created her own hand-pulled color woodblock prints from up to six plates between 1897 and 1904. These woodcuts, belonging to the Art Nouveau style, garnered considerable attention, were exhibited at the 1900 World's Fair in Paris, and awarded a silver medal.

In 1901, she married the widowed Justus Brinckmann. Besides their daughter Stephanie (1893–1975), the couple had three children: Heinrich (1900–1975), Gertrud (1902–1993), and Edgar (1904–1984).

In 1912, she painted a portrait of her husband.

During her marriage, she reduced her artistic activity, primarily creating portraits of family members and people in her immediate circle. According to another account, she "worked secretly, in her husband's absence, until his [i.e., Julius Brinckmann's] death" (Renate Berger), as he "forbade her from continuing her artistic work upon their marriage" (Rita Bake / Rita Reimers).

After the death of Justus Brinckmann, she resumed her (miniature) painting, and later her work with color woodcuts.
