A large and finely executed European Rococo-style oil-on-canvas portrait depicting Jeanne Antoinette Poisson (1721–1764), Marquise de Pompadour, widely known as Madame de Pompadour and the influential official mistress of King Louis XV of France.

The sitter is portrayed in an elegant French court costume: a pale silk gown with lace-trimmed neckline, pink ribbon bows, floral ornaments in her powdered hair, and a richly painted blue mantle draped across the composition. The graceful pose, luminous complexion, refined fabrics, and atmospheric landscape background evoke the sophisticated portrait tradition of the French royal court.

This work was cataloged by Morphy Auctions as “Attributed to Jean-Marc Nattier (French, 1685–1766), Framed Portrait of Madame de Pompadour” in its June 8, 2022 auction, Lot 1017. Jean-Marc Nattier was one of the leading portrait painters associated with the French court and is particularly known for elegant, idealized portraits of aristocratic women.
