The … Read more Beautiful vintage Chinese blue-and-white porcelain fishbowl or jardinière featuring an elaborate underwater scene of fish swimming among aquatic plants.

The rounded vessel is decorated throughout in rich cobalt blue against a white porcelain ground. Multiple fish encircle the body among finely rendered aquatic vegetation, while the upper rim features a continuous decorative border of floral and geometric motifs.

The underside bears a four-character blue Qianlong-style reign mark. This mark is presented as part of the decoration and identification of the piece and is not intended as a claim that the vessel dates to the 18th-century Qianlong reign. Based on its construction, decoration, and overall appearance, we believe this to be a later vintage Chinese decorative piece.

The interior is glazed in a pale celadon-white tone and is exceptionally clean. The substantial size makes it excellent as a decorative bowl, cachepot, planter, or standalone blue-and-white porcelain accent.

Acquired from a private collection containing numerous Chinese and East Asian decorative objects collected during the 20th century.

Dimensions: approximately 10” diameter at opening/widest area.

Condition: Very good vintage condition. No chips, cracks, or repairs observed. Minor irregularities and wear consistent with age and manufacture. Please review all photographs, including the underside and reign-style mark. See less
