Exceptional antique Venetian glass and micromosaic vanity/dresser mirror by Pauly & C., Venezia, retaining its original marked Pauly & C. Venezia easel-back hardware.
An elaborate and highly decorative example featuring an oval beveled mirror surrounded by finely worked turquoise-blue micromosaic ground densely decorated with hundreds of tiny individual floral tesserae. The upper section is primarily decorated with white daisy-like flowers and foliage, while the lower section incorporates colorful pink, blue, yellow, white and multicolored blossoms.
The micromosaic work is surrounded by an elaborate clear Venetian glass frame composed of molded scrolls, flowers, leaves, rosettes and applied dimensional floral elements. The construction is backed by shaped wood and retains its folding metal easel support.
Measures approximately 16¾” high x 12” wide x 9” deep when displayed with easel extended.
Condition: Antique estate condition with age-related wear. The micromosaic decoration appears remarkably well preserved overall with only minor age wear/losses noted. The elaborate glass frame has scattered chips, losses and old repairs. There is an old repair at the lower-left foot. The large applied glass flower on the right shows visible glue residue, suggesting an old repair. Above the mirror there appears to be a missing applied floral element or portion of the decorative beading. Some glass components are secured with older wire and others appear to have been resecured with newer wire. Additional small chips, flakes, losses, old repairs and signs of previous stabilization may be present throughout due to the extremely delicate construction. Mirror glass shows expected age/use wear. Please examine all photographs closely as they are an important part of the condition description.
A beautiful and unusually elaborate surviving example of Venetian glass and micromosaic work, made especially desirable by the Pauly & C. Venezia attribution.
