Measuring approximately 14 inches in diameter and 8 inches high, this substantial round vessel displays exceptionally detailed handwoven construction throughout. The exterior is tightly woven in a rich reddish-brown tone with contrasting dark geometric motifs incorporated directly into the weave.

The craftsmanship continues into areas normally hidden from view. The interior bottom features an intricate geometric pattern created from contrasting natural and darkened bamboo splints, while the underside displays an equally elaborate woven design surrounded by a reinforced concentric base.

The upper opening is finished with a substantial carved wooden collar decorated in raised floral and foliate motifs. Traces of the original dark reddish-brown finish and warm gilt-toned detailing remain, giving the piece wonderful depth and aged character.

A particularly attractive example of traditional Asian basketry, this piece works beautifully as a sculptural decorative object while retaining the character and craftsmanship of its original handmade construction.

Condition: Very good antique condition with age-appropriate surface wear, finish loss and minor irregularities consistent with age and hand construction. There is a small area of old light-colored surface residue, possibly wax, on the exterior. It has intentionally been left untouched rather than risk disturbing the original surface. Wear and patina are visible around the carved upper collar and elsewhere as shown. Please review photographs closely.
