According to the inscriptions on the reverse, the woman depicted in this painting is "Frau Hagen." She was the mother of Frau Elisabeth Burbach, née Hagen, who in turn was the mother of Johanna Burbach. Johanna Burbach was the mother of Ferdinand Knauff, who, together with his wife Adele, née Terstegen, was the tenant of Monsheim Castle in the Alzey-Worms district from 1902.

In short: The woman depicted is therefore the great-grandmother of Ferdinand Knauff.

Georg Otto Forster

Painter.

Great-nephew of the painter brothers Johann (1768-1840) and Johann Adam Schlesinger (1759-1829), who were also a great inspiration and had a significant influence on Forster's artistic work.

Besides a few still lifes, Georg Otto Forster is particularly known for his portraits, in which he likely depicted people from his local area. Forster lived and worked in the small village of Sausenheim, which is now a district of Grünstadt in the Bad Dürkheim district.

The artist's son, also named Georg(e) Forster (1817-1896), is far more famous than his father. He emigrated to the USA in 1865, where he established himself as an artist, especially as a still-life painter, and is still known for this work today.
