Wonderful original antique Metalcraft Corporation pressed-steel Towing & Repairs wrecker truck, made in St. Louis, Missouri, circa 1930s.
This early American toy truck features a dark blue/black pressed-steel cab and chassis with contrasting mustard-yellow towing bed. Both sides retain the original-style advertising lettering reading:
“TOWING – REPAIRS / METALCRAFT / ST LOUIS.”
The rear retains its raised metal tow boom with string/cable and metal hook, along with the two upright cylindrical supports. The truck has metal disc wheels and a silver-colored embossed radiator/grille.
Measures approximately 11.5 inches long x 4.5 inches wide x 4.5 inches high, excluding any additional projection of the tow boom/hook.
Estate fresh with a very attractive old surface. There is scattered paint loss, scratches, rubbing, oxidation, discoloration and other expected signs of age and play. The tow string appears old but I cannot confirm whether it is original. Please examine the photographs closely for exact condition and completeness.
No attempt has been made to clean, polish, repaint or restore the truck.
A particularly appealing early Metalcraft St. Louis pressed-steel wrecker, displaying very nicely with its original-looking dark finish and mustard-yellow towing body.
