Rather than relying on a conventional central medallion, the design develops continuously along the length of the rug, giving the piece a strong sense of movement and making particularly effective use of its long gallery proportions.

The nearly black ground is densely covered with large sweeping scrolling forms, palmettes, stylized leaves, floral rosettes, hooked botanical elements, geometric devices, small blossoms, diamonds, crosses, and star-like ornaments. The larger pale camel, pink, and olive forms create the structural framework of the composition, while numerous smaller motifs fill the surrounding negative space. This layering produces the exceptionally rich and intricate appearance associated with decorative Karabagh weaving.

Several prominent floral arrangements appear throughout the field, incorporating saturated red, blue, turquoise, green, ivory, and rose details. Smaller blossoms and geometric ornaments are distributed between the larger scrolling forms, giving the rug a remarkably varied design in which the viewer continues to discover new details across the surface.

Its palette is especially distinctive, combining deep black, dark brown, faded rose pink, salmon, dusty pink, camel, tan, beige, olive green, sage, turquoise, aqua blue, sky blue, deep blue, brick red, crimson, burgundy, ivory, and cream. Natural aging has softened many of the original tones, particularly the pink, camel, and green passages, creating the attractive variation and patina visible throughout the rug.

A narrow red patterned border frames the exceptionally busy central field without competing with it, allowing the elaborate interior composition to remain the primary visual focus.
