The figure was sold by Winfield Auction Gallery with the attribution “Carved Mahogany Figure of Will Rogers in Famous Pose From Ziegfeld Follies, c1920.” That attribution is being retained here as part of the item’s auction history.

Rogers became one of the great attractions of the Ziegfeld Follies, performing in cowboy attire while combining his famous rope work with topical humor. Period accounts specifically describe him appearing onstage armed with his rope and performing lariat tricks while delivering his commentary.

The carving is impressively detailed, including Rogers’ expressive face and characteristic pose, broad-brimmed cowboy hat, neckerchief, Western shirt, decorated chaps and deeply carved coiled lariat.

Measures approximately 14” high x 5” wide x 4” deep. The rectangular base retains old green felt underneath.

Condition is good overall with expected age and surface wear. A small section of the outer hat brim appears to have been broken and reattached/reglued, with the repair visible upon close inspection. There is additional scattered finish wear and rubbing consistent with age. Please examine all photographs carefully.
