This is a lovely pair of vintage Chinese "Foo Dogs" (also known as Guardian Lions or Shishi), meticulously carved from Boxwood. In Chinese culture, these lions are powerful symbols of protection, strength, and good fortune. They are often placed in pairs to guard against evil spirits and welcome prosperity.

Key Features:

Material & Craftsmanship: Expertly carved from Boxwood (Huangyang Mu), a dense, fine-grained wood prized for its ability to hold intricate details. The wood has developed a beautiful, warm, honey-brown patina over time.

Detailed Carving: Despite their small size, the carving is incredibly detailed. You can clearly see the curly manes, expressive faces, and muscular bodies. Each lion sits on a raised, decorated base featuring a carved "Taotie" (beast face) mask on the front.

Symbolism:
