Elegant vintage Friedman Brothers “The Empress” mirror, Model 1816, retaining its original Friedman Brothers label and model number on the reverse.
This striking mirror features a gracefully shaped beveled mirror plate framed in a sophisticated combination of warm gilt and contrasting dark brown-black detailing. The distinctive double-arched top is crowned by a dramatic gilt plume flanked by scrolling foliate ornament, with additional classical gilt embellishments along the sides and architectural detailing at the base.
The original gilt finish has developed a beautiful, softly aged patina that gives the piece warmth and character. At approximately 31 inches wide by 46 inches high, this is the larger size of the Empress design and has wonderful presence without being overwhelmingly large.
A particularly versatile statement mirror, equally suited to French Regency, Hollywood Regency, Neoclassical, traditional, maximalist or collected interiors. Beautiful above a chest or console, in an entryway, bedroom, dressing room or powder room.
The mirror retains its original Friedman Brothers paper label on the reverse, along with the handwritten Model 1816 designation.
