An impressive large-scale Jan McLean “Patricia” porcelain collector doll, created in 1998 and produced as a limited edition of only 1,000 examples.

This particular doll is individually numbered:

452 / 1000

Most importantly, attribution and dating are documented directly on the doll. The porcelain at the back of the neck bears the Jan McLean signature, © 1998, and the individually applied edition number 452/1000.

Standing approximately 30 inches tall, Patricia has considerable presence compared with smaller collector dolls.

She features a finely modeled porcelain face with an expressive, almost contemplative appearance, striking pink/lavender eyes, individually applied lashes, delicately painted brows and softly colored lips.

Her abundant long blonde hair is arranged in curls and waves that cascade over the shoulders and back.

Patricia wears an elaborate period-inspired ensemble in black and muted lavender-gray. The fitted black jacket features oversized covered buttons and white lace cuffs, while the full skirt incorporates multiple bands of contrasting trim.

A high white lace collar provides additional Victorian-inspired detailing.

Particularly striking is her dramatic wide-brimmed black hat, lavishly decorated with lavender-gray fabric, black netting, feathers and large fabric flowers in soft pink and pale gray.

The doll's porcelain hands are delicately modeled, with individually defined fingers and subtle painted nail details. Black heeled footwear completes the ensemble.

Collector's Note / Unusual Backstory

Patricia comes from a large private collection and has always had an unusually strong visual presence.

The previous owner personally found her expression and lifelike appearance somewhat mysterious and unsettling and ultimately decided she would be better appreciated by a collector who enjoys distinctive, atmospheric and conversation-provoking pieces.

No claim of paranormal activity or supernatural provenance is being made. This anecdote is included simply as part of the doll's personal collecting history.

Whether viewed as a fine artist doll, an unusual decorative object, or simply a wonderfully theatrical example of late-20th-century doll artistry, Patricia is difficult to overlook.
