The cylindrical vase combines a vivid blue ground with finely modelled white relief decoration, creating a pronounced contrast that emphasises the detail of the moulded surface. The Neoclassical Revival decoration incorporates cherubs within a naturalistic setting, framed by palmettes and elaborate acanthus and foliate borders. The soft matte character of the bisque porcelain gives the raised ivory-toned ornament a sculptural quality against the finely textured royal blue ground. Bands of repeating classical ornament define the upper and lower sections of the cylindrical form. Made by Samuel Alcock, the vase is stamped on the underside with the Alcock coat of arms, providing a clear manufacturer's mark. Its compact proportions and detailed relief work are characteristic of the decorative possibilities of 19th-century Parian ware. Overall in great condition for its antique age, with minor wear commensurate with age and use. There is one area of damage to the base rim, visible when the vase is lifted.
