Johann (Hans) Werner Kirchner

Painter, draftsman, actor.

H. W. Kirchner attended the Folkwang School in Essen.

Subsequently, he worked primarily as an artist and actor in Stuttgart. He lived at Lindenspürstraße 13a and later at Landhausstraße 55.

from 1959 to 1961, he appeared in Western film adaptations of Karl May's novels.

He was married to Ingeborg Kirchner-Brechelt.

Kirchner's art is characterized primarily by small- to medium-sized abstract works in oil and watercolor, which he sometimes painstakingly reworked through scratching and deliberate removal. Influenced by German Informel, Kirchner developed his own non-representational style, often distinguished by a remarkable depth within the compositions. In contrast to many other Informel artists, Kirchner's work also demonstrates a deliberate, rational approach to composition and color. This is particularly evident in his dynamic use of complementary colors, with Kirchner repeatedly employing bright, vibrant hues like reddish-violet, lending his work a certain "pop" quality.
