Circa 1870 antique illustrated family Bible with provenance connecting it to the Ellwood family of DeKalb, Illinois. The volume includes dedicated record pages for births, marriages, and deaths, along with an original marriage certificate and a 1944 obituary for Alice Ellwood, daughter of Hiram and Sarah Ellwood. Photographs of Hiram and Sarah are also preserved among the book's pages.
The Ellwood family played a prominent role in the industrial and civic development of DeKalb. Isaac L. Ellwood partnered with Joseph Glidden in 1874 to manufacture barbed wire and later became recognized as one of the founders of what is now Northern Illinois University.
This substantial illustrated Bible offers decorative appeal together with significant family and regional historical provenance.
