Oversized antique trade sign modeled after a traditional carpenter's hand saw and advertising the “Spearior” line of handsaws manufactured by Spear & Jackson of Sheffield, England.
The sign features a shaped wooden handle secured with oversized brass-tone fasteners and a large steel-form blade with hand-painted and screen-decorated graphics. The ornate central Spearior trademark emblem is surrounded by advertising phrases including “Manufactured By,” “Improved Temper,” “Tested for Hardness & Spring,” and “Teeth Won't Break Out.”
The saw-shaped form, substantial scale, and colorful original graphics would have created an eye-catching display in a hardware store, tool dealer, or commercial showroom. A mounting hole near the end of the blade allows the sign to be displayed on a wall.
