The piece exhibits a post-WWII abstract expressionist and modernist style, breaking down a landscape and structure into fractured geometric forms, earthy undertones, and vibrant blocks of blue and green. Much of his highly sought-after landscape work was inspired by his time spent painting on Monhegan Island, Maine, where he summered for decades. This painting is framed under glass in a custom ash frame. No visible signature, circa 1940-1949.

Morris Shulman (1912–1978) was an American abstract expressionist painter known for his colorful, dynamic compositions that often featured geometric forms and energetic brushwork. Born in Savannah, Georgia in 1912, he studied at the National Academy of Design and the Hans Hofmann School of Art in New York City. His work has been exhibited widely in museums and galleries, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, National Museum of American Art at the Smithsonian, the Carnegie Institute Museum, and the Brooklyn Museum.
