France characterised by rural landscapes, waterways, woods and vast natural expanses, with an atmosphere of peace and naturalness.

This is an antique painting; the work is signed by Théodore Gardère, a painter, art enthusiast and collector.

Théodore Gardère (1834-1903) was born in Bordeaux. The Musée des Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux houses works painted by him,

as well as numerous paintings that belonged to his important collection.

His artistic activity forms part of the panorama of 19th-century French painting, with particular attention to landscape painting

and the representation of nature. The painting is presented in an original and authentic gilt frame.

The antique frame and the painting have been professionally and carefully restored.
