This is a stunning vintage Chinese wooden tea tray or display plaque, featuring exquisite Mother of Pearl (shell) inlay work. Crafted from dense rosewood (likely Huali or similar hardwood), this piece showcases traditional Chinese craftsmanship and symbolism.
Design & Details:
Central Motif: The centerpiece features a detailed inlay of a mythical Qilin (or Kirin) and a smaller beast, surrounded by auspicious cloud patterns and a red flaming pearl. The Qilin is a symbol of prosperity, peace, and good fortune in Chinese culture.
Material: The inlay is made from iridescent Mother of Pearl shell, which catches the light beautifully against the dark wood grain. The wood itself has a rich, reddish-brown tone with visible, elegant grain patterns typical of Huali/Rosewood.
