A refined Chinese hardwood trinket or jewelry box, crafted from dense, deep-toned zitan-style rosewood with fine, dense grain visible across the straight-grained sides.
The lid is inlaid with mother-of-pearl (luodian) depicting a ruyi scepter — the classic Chinese symbol of wishes fulfilled and good fortune — its head tipped with a glossy blue hardstone, trailed by scrolling ribbons and auspicious clouds in graduated shell tones of pearlescent white, pink, and green. The iridescent shell shimmers softly against the dark wood.
The front is fitted with a traditional brass ruyi-shaped lock plate and clasp, a functional and decorative touch. The box opens to a hinged lid and a lined interior (as shown in photos) — ideal for jewelry, watches, small keepsakes, tea ware, or desk treasures.
A beautiful piece for a dresser, nightstand, or study shelf; pairs beautifully with Chinoiserie, Hollywood Regency, and collected, layered interiors.
