This rare specimen features a crisp, legible artist inscription and signature along the margin, securely dating the piece to the Autumn of 1926 (the Bingyin Year of the Tiger). The inscription attributes the work to the artist Dongsheng of Huizhou (冬生). Finding a 1920s reverse glass painting that is not only in flawless condition but completely signed, localized, and cyclically dated is incredibly uncommon.Composition & SubjectThe artwork features a finely detailed portrait of a young aristocratic woman seated at leisure within a formal domestic parlor interior. Dressed in a richly pigmented dark green traditional robe with intricate geometric "key" borders on the cuffs, she holds a traditional long pipe.
