This is an exceptionally elegant vintage Chinese jewelry box or keepsake chest. It features a striking contrast between a dark, polished hardwood frame and a vibrant, highly figured Golden Camphor (Burl Wood) panel on the lid. It is a sophisticated piece that highlights the natural beauty of rare woods.
Design & Details:
The Golden Camphor Panel: The lid is inset with a large panel of Golden Camphor wood (Huang Jin Zhang), prized for its rich, golden-amber color and intricate, swirling grain patterns. This type of wood is a form of Burl Wood, known for its unique "bird's eye" or "peacock feather" figuring, making each piece unique.
The Frame: The box body is crafted from dense Rosewood (Huali), finished in a deep, almost black-brown tone. This dark frame creates a dramatic, modern contrast against the bright golden wood on top.
Hardware: It features a traditional Chinese brass (or copper alloy) lock plate and clasp in a classic gourd or ruyi shape. The lock is decorative and does not include a key. The brass has a natural, vintage patina.
Structure: A rectangular box with a fitted lid, providing ample space for storing jewelry, watches, or important small documents.
