Finished in warm blonde wood, its architectural silhouette brings an unexpected modern counterpoint to the richly layered character of a private library, country-house sitting room, or collected gentleman’s study.

In overall appearance, proportions, and function, this piece closely recalls Edward Wormley’s celebrated Model 4765 “Magazine Tree,” designed for Dunbar in 1947. Both feature a central architectural framework, tiered projecting shelves, and a compact table-height form. Documented Model 4765 examples generally measure approximately 28 inches wide by 16 inches deep by 24.5–25 inches high, while this example measures approximately 22 inches wide by 16 inches deep by 25 inches high. Its depth and height are therefore remarkably similar, although its narrower width, broad upper surface, shaped trestle feet, and pierced handle details distinguish it as a separate interpretation of the magazine-tree form. This unsigned piece is presented as maker unknown, with no attribution to Wormley or Dunbar implied.

Four generously proportioned offset shelves extend from the central framework beneath a broad upper surface, creating storage for magazines, newspapers, art books, portfolios, records, or sheet music. The top offers an additional surface for a reading lamp, framed photograph, bronze sculpture, or favorite collection of objects.

The beauty lies in the workmanship: rounded corners, shaped trestle feet, visible wooden pegs, fitted shelf supports, and distinctive triple-pierced handle details. Expressive grain, natural knots, and subtle reddish streaking enrich the warm blonde finish, while the alternating shelves create a strong architectural rhythm from every angle.

Exceptionally heavy, sturdy, and stable, this is far more substantial than an ordinary magazine rack. Its combination of handsome utility and uncommon form feels especially at home beside a leather club chair, tailored sofa, campaign desk, or well-stocked bookcase. It offers the layered, quietly luxurious sensibility associated with Ralph Lauren–inspired interiors while remaining distinctly mid-century in form.
