An intricate parlor-craft bowl decorated with overlapping cigar bands arranged around a central photographic portrait of a young woman. Rich reds, turquoise, pale green, and metallic gold create a striking radial composition, with recognizable names including Blackstone, Muriel, and C.B. Perkins woven into the design.
The exterior and underside are covered in softly faded, textured pink fabric, with folds following the bowl’s curved form. Measures approximately 8.75 inches in diameter × 2.25 inches high. Maker and exact date unknown.
The portrait at its center makes this piece especially compelling. Someone took ordinary cigar bands and carefully built an elaborate surround for this face. Who she was, and what she meant to the maker, remain a wonderfully intriguing mystery.
Early 20th century, likely circa 1920s–1930s. A distinctive piece of handmade folk art for decorative display.
