This attractive early 20th-century graphic work presents a detailed view of historic Hannover architecture, with a prominent Gothic church tower and surrounding traditional buildings. The carefully rendered architectural details, figures and street scene create a lively yet documentary impression of the historic city.

The work is hand-signed “P. Fuhrmann” at lower right and titled “Hannover” at lower left.

The artist Paul Fuhrmann (1893–1952) was a German painter and graphic artist who worked extensively in printmaking and architectural city views. He studied under Emil Orlik in Berlin and was associated with the November Group and other important German artistic movements of the early 20th century. His signed city views of places including Heidelberg, Meersburg, Innsbruck and Danzig are documented in the art and antiquarian market.

The present work is particularly appealing as a historical representation of Hannover's architecture before the extensive destruction and subsequent rebuilding of the city during and after the Second World War.

The print is presented in an attractive period wooden frame with gilt inner moulding, wide passe-partout and glazing.
