The front is decorated with a pair of carved portrait medallions flanking the original-style lock opening, with a small carved floral motif below. Additional carving continues around the sides and back, including a profile portrait within a circular medallion and cross motifs.

The lift-top chest opens on substantial hand-forged iron strap hinges to reveal a useful storage compartment. Turned legs and a simple stretcher base give this compact piece a particularly handsome architectural presence.

Beautifully aged throughout, with visible grain, surface wear and variations in the dark finish that give the chest the character one hopes to find in an old piece of vernacular furniture.
