Against a deep black lacquered ground, scrolling vines and jewel-toned blossoms in green, blue, yellow, red, and ivory are framed by warm gold-painted outlines.

Each diminutive shelf is constructed with a shaped upper ledge, central descending support, symmetrical scrolling volutes, and a decorative pendant finial. The elegant form recalls European neoclassical wall brackets, interpreted through the richly colored hand-painted tradition of Indian decorative arts. Subtle differences in floral placement and brushwork confirm the pair’s handmade character.

Perfectly scaled for displaying miniature blue-and-white porcelain, small framed silhouettes, collected curiosities, or petite decorative objects. Their black ground, intricate botanical decoration, and architectural silhouettes lend themselves beautifully to Ralph Lauren–inspired interiors, traditional maximalism, chinoiserie, English country, and layered grandmillennial rooms.

The shelves are a matching set and sold as a pair. Each retains two brass-tone triangular hanging rings on the reverse. No maker’s mark or country label was found, and it was conservatively attributed to India, mid-to-late 20th century. See less
