Charming antique faux-bamboo umbrella and walking stick stand dating to approximately 1890–1910, featuring an unusually decorative bentwood and turned-wood construction … Read more Charming antique faux-bamboo umbrella and walking stick stand dating to approximately 1890–1910, featuring an unusually decorative bentwood and turned-wood construction associated with the Aesthetic Movement. The slender frame is beautifully detailed with arched bentwood panels, turned ball accents and finials, geometric spindlework, and aged brass-tone fittings at the joints.

The lower portion retains its original fitted metal drip basin with a hand-worked, dished center designed to collect water from umbrellas. The metal has developed wonderful oxidation and patina from more than a century of use.

The dark brown wood retains an attractive aged finish with variations in color and patina throughout. Two of the upper horizontal rails show noticeable surface and finish wear from use, as photographed. This is cosmetic and does not detract from the structure or function of the piece. Additional minor marks, finish variation, oxidation to the metal components, and other signs of age are present and contribute to its authentic antique character.

A particularly appealing small-scale example at just 26.5 inches tall and approximately 9 inches wide, making it easy to place beside an entry door or in a hall without occupying significant floor space. Equally attractive filled with vintage walking sticks and canes.
