The sitter is portrayed in a poised three-quarter view, with carefully arranged dark curls threaded with softly painted ribbon accents. Her composed expression, deep red lipstick, gently modeled complexion, and gray dress finished with remarkably detailed white eyelet-lace trim give the portrait an intimate and distinctly period character.

Nakamori works in a restrained palette of warm brown, charcoal, gray, ivory, muted rose, and deep red. The understated background brings attention to the sitter’s face and clothing, while the visible canvas texture and controlled handling of light and shadow reinforce the work’s traditional portrait quality.

Signed “Kenzo Nakamori” in red and dated 1952 at the lower right. The work was documented by the private estate from which it was acquired as an original portrait by Kenzo Nakamori. The sitter’s identity and original title are unknown.

The painting is housed in an ornate aged-gold wood frame featuring raised foliate scrollwork, lattice-patterned ornament, dark recessed detailing, and layered molded borders. Its authentic surface wear gives the piece the depth and character of artwork collected and lived with over generations.

The reverse reveals what appears to be the original unlined canvas mounted on a traditional wooden stretcher with a central horizontal support. The substantial outer frame incorporates reinforced corner construction, and a hanging wire is installed.
